DOMINIQUE DORIE

Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958.  At the age of sixteen he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures. Dominique enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although he had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch. Nevertheless he had several small “exhibitions” of his own, by hanging his work in the evenings on the fences of the Church of St. Germain des Pres. 1977 marked the turning point for Dorié’s career.  He won a scholarship offered by the city of Paris, which enabled him to enroll in a night course in drawing.  As his skills in that field improved, he developed a desire to use color and began to paint in oil. From 1974 on, Dorié had participated in a number of exhibitions in the towns surrounding Paris. He also had two one-man shows in Paris, and one in Strasbourg between 1982 and 1984.

Though Paris is the center of art in France, working there can be accompanied by many distractions. At the age of twenty-four Dorié decided he needed surroundings with greater calm and quiet, so he moved to a small village on the edge of the sea in Normandy where he has worked to improve his handling of both light and color.

The artist who hung his work on the fences surrounding the church of St. Germain des Pres has traveled a long distance. In 1985 he exhibited his work in the Salon de Criel and in the Salon d’Orly. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibition. In 1984 and 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d’Automne. In 1986 he won the Medaille d’Or at an exhibition in Deauville. He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious Benezit Encylcopedia, 2000 Edition, and is featured on page 687.

Gallerie Je Reviens is the exclusive agent of Dominique Dorié in North America. We are pleased to present his work for your viewing pleasure.

JEAN PIERRE DUBORD

Jean Pierre Dubord was born in Rouen in 1940. After spending many years in the French countryside, he returned to his native city to portray the surroundings of his youth.  While Rouen is a favorite subject for his paintings, he often depicts Paris, the Norman countryside, the beaches of Deauville and Houlgate, the cliffs of Caux and Etretat, and scenes along the Seine.  He is known for his ability to capture the subtleties of light and color unique to each season.

In 1970, he had his first exhibition of approximately thirty paintings in Rouen, a show that was highly praised by art critics. In addition to his annual show in Rouen, he has exhibited in Birdhouse, La Hare, La Rochelle, Osaka, Quebec, and in the major Salons of Paris.

Dubord has his own original approach to painting. He continuously amazes the viewer with his lively renderings of the small villages, cities, and beaches of France.  Dubord’s canvases reveal his own intense joy of life, and are distinguishable by a rich palette of color.  Jean Pierre’s mastery of expertly portraying light on canvas, and the subtle beauty of his paintings can be traced to the impressionist tradition.

Dubord is hailed throughout the world as one of the most popular and sought after 20th century ontemporary impressionists.  His work is so highly regarded that he is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including: First prize of Ville de Canteleu — 1982, First prize of Ville d’Yport — 1984, Gold Medal of Ville de Rueil Malmaison — 1985, Honorable Mention, Salon des Artistes Francais — 1985, Landscape prize, Salon du Val d’Or — 1985, Prize of Conceil General, Salon de Pentoise — 1985, Premier Prix de Paysage — 1985, and Salon de Bourges — 1985. JEAN CLAUDE DUTEIL

Jean-Claude Duteil was born on the banks of Seine in 1950 to a family very much involved in the arts. His father was the Chief Restorator at the Louvre Museum in Paris and his grandfather was the well-known Naif artist Camille Bombois. Not surprisinginly, Jean-Claude was interested in the arts at an early age and began painting at the age of 13, launching his debut exhibit in Paris shortly thereafter.

Duteil maintains the fundamental traditions developed by the Impressionists, dedicating his time to the natural study of shifting light upon land and sea. He handles the refraction of light in the sky masterfully, with glorious rays shining through opaque clouds and light softening one part of the landscape while pitching another into sharp relief. His art appears to express “the smiling mood of nature”. He has sensibility, good taste, and pictorial tact. These effects of light have an almost material fashion on the canvas. The varied texture of the surface betokens the effect of Sisley’s great work.

Jean-Claude Duteil’s finesse equals that of Jaques Bouyssou. He uses the sun-drenched beaches of Normandy and southern France to experiment with color and the sensual graduation of warm southern light. He allows the gentle colors of yellow, light blue and ochre to express the movement that translates a feeling into a stroke of serene harmonious beauty.

Duteil is a member of the prestigious impressionist society “Maison des Artistes Français”. His art has been exhibited throughout Europe and the Orient.

JACQUELINE DUVOISIN

French artist, Jacqueline Duvoisin’s paintings are rich with emotion and authentic natural flavor. Her compositions are beautifully balanced with a natural sensibility and intensity of light. This self taught artist has been internationally recognized for her art and is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards.

Her warm countryside palettes punctuated by cool lavender flowers present scenes bathed in pleasantly hazy and warm light to appeal to our softer lenses. Her unique brushstroke, characterized by a dragging, almost scratching style, results in varied surfaces of her canvases, reflecting the beauty in life’s imperfections.

Jacqueline Duvoisin paints with wonderful technique and executes her varied subjects with care and precision whether it is a cottage in the French countryside, a domestic still life of pottery and drapery, a deserted beach, or a quiet garden. Jacqueline always manages to capture a sense of mystery through accurate perspective in her architectural elements and wonderful use of shadow and light.

RICHARD POUMELIN

There are certain works of art, which attract our admiration at once.  We experience a kind of fascination which results from their effect upon our sensitivity, a fascination which is not related to any esthetic in vogue; a fascination which introduces us to a separate world, a strongly structured world, of an astonishing plastic density.

Rosso Richard dit Poumelin relates to Georges Braque’s “the truth is revealed only when it is touched by poetic light.” His search for the absolute opens the way to an intense lyricism. A classic experimentalist, Poumelin began to draw in his native France when he was sixteen years old.  He hasn’t stopped, and today is recognized as one of the contemporary rising stars. Self taught Poumelin is inspired by many of the impressionist and post-impressionist ‘masters’.

In addition to his acrylic and watercolor paintings, his art is expressed in his music as an accomplished guitarist. His landscapes, still lifes, and his musical themed paintings are filled with a spiritual exercise…filled with powerful harmonies and magic reality, and sensitive serenity. Poumelin possesses a meticulous awareness of his craft and his art. He remains faithful to the motif, to the object, to the unmistakable poetic elements.

A silver medallist in 1996 at the Grand Salon Internationnal de Peinture, and the grand prize gold medallist in 1997 at the Internationnal d’Arts Plastiques Poumelin’s work are in a number of significant private and corporate collections. His art is widely exhibited in France, Italy, Canada, Corsica, and most recently in the United Sates.
